Of Gallo-Roman origin, Malguénac means “large hill”. Human occupation is attested from prehistory to the Iron Age. It is also confirmed in the Gallo-Roman era, by the presence of the Roman road linking Vannes to Carhaix.

Step 1
The church dates from the 15th century,
with some traces of an older construction. It retains the enclosure of its disused cemetery which once surrounded it, with its beautiful Calvary-altar
unfortunately mutilated. The worker responsible for building the bell tower fell in love with the niece
of the priest. To get his hand, he agreed to complete the bell tower in a week. Thus, this shell-shaped arrow was nicknamed “the loaf of sugar” or “the lump of butter”.
Step 2
This ancient Roman road, called “royal”, is 14 m wide and 2,5 km long and is very well preserved. This is a section of a road linking Locmariaquer
and Vannes in Carhaix. Legend even says that François 1
to visit its strongholds in Brittany…
Step 3
Privately owned, it was a water mill. The town had 6 water mills and 4 windmills. These mills were commonplace, a seigniorial right before the revolution: the lord had to maintain the
technical installations (ovens, mills, presses, etc.), in return the inhabitants of the lordship had to use only the facilities of their lordship, which were subject to payment.
Step 4
The fountain has been listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments since 1935. It dates from the 1862th or 1920th centuries and was restored in XNUMX. Previously, the St Nicolas chapel dating from the same period was located next to it. Despite its beautiful architecture, the roof collapsed in XNUMX and the
commune did not have the means to restore it after the first war
world… His stones will be sold in 1973.
Step 5
The covered walkway is 500 m from the circuit: from the Saint-Nicolas fountain, go up the road on your left and take the path immediately to the right. Make a return trip to discover it. Classified as a historic monument, it dates from the Neolithic period. A covered walkway is a particularly long dolmen, composed
of a single room.
Step 6
The fountain dates from the 17th century. Its water is reputed to relieve and even cure rheumatism. The name of this place recalls the probable, but very distant, existence of a moustier or monastery.
