Roc'han means "small rock" in Breton, it is the rocky promontory on the banks of the Oust where their fortress was built. . Rohan became the capital of the Viscounty from the 12th century, until 1396. Much later, the construction of the Nantes-Brest canal made Rohan a major place of commerce and trade.
